Summer Camps at SST

THE SEACOAST SCHOOL OF TECHNOLOGY
PRESENTS THE 5th ANNUAL
SUMMER CAMPS FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS

Exciting summer camps will be offered once again to students who are currently in the 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade. One-week camp sessions will take place during the weeks of June 24 and July 8, 2013. Each day’s session will run from         8:00 a.m.-12:00 noon. Students are responsible for their own transportation. No food will be served. The cost of $135 per camp includes all required materials. Each camp will run contingent upon enrollment. A student will be considered enrolled once the enrollment and medical forms are complete and a check made payable to the Seacoast School of Technology has been received and cleared.  

The following camps will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis:

Computer Programming for Kids - Currently Full
Week of June 24 

Take charge of your computer. Learn to program a computer to do what you want it to do. Make your own games, your own word processor, web browser and music player. These are just a few of the projects that we will create in this camp. We will be using Visual Basic and the Python programming languages to do some amazing things. Limited to 15 students.  

Future Architects - Currently Full
Week of June 24

Want to learn what it’s like to design buildings and be an architect or a civil engineer? In this camp, you will learn about what makes structures work while having fun. You will design buildings by hand and on the computer, learn about green building techniques and get to know some of the world’s most famous structures and the architects who designed them. Campers will solve design challenges, enjoy model-making activities and discover Exeter’s unique architecture on a local field trip. Limited to 15 students.  

Become a Builder
Week of June 24

Want to learn basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools? Want to learn proper safety techniques to use in a workshop or on a construction site? Sign up for this camp and each day you will build an exciting new project with the tool of the day. Campers are required to wear pants and no open-toed shoes. Limited to 12 students.  

Introduction to Culinary Arts - Currently Full
Week of June 24

Students will be introduced to a newly-renovated, fully-functional restaurant with a state-of-the-art kitchen. Hands-on activities will include fruit carvings, precision cuts, chicken fabrication, stock making, soup making, salads/dressings, appetizers, international cuisine and menu creation. As part of this exploration process, students will use each of their senses to enhance their learning and will come away with the basics of the savory side of the kitchen. Campers are required to wear pants and no open-toed shoes. Limit to 12 students.

Pet Detectives Wanted!
June 24 and July 8

Come do some investigative work on what it is like to care for both large and small animals. Students will spend their time learning about poultry, livestock, equine and companion animals. Care and handling, as well as important background knowledge will be covered as detectives discover the amazing world of animals. Limited to 12 students.

How Does Your Garden Grow?
June 24 and July 8

Gardening isn't all about cutting the grass and eating veggies! Do you enjoy getting your hands dirty, being outside and helping things grow? In this camp, you will learn about plant identification, edible weeds, soil composition, and of course, garden helpers and pests! Come create your own sun print from foliage, paint garden markers and grow your own alfalfa! Limited to 12 students.

Engine Overhaulin’ - Currently Full
Week of July 8

If you enjoy cars, engines, and you are interested in horsepower, this is the camp for you. Here you will learn about engine basics and performance and get your hands dirty dismantling and rebuilding automobile engines. In this class, you will use Snap-On tools to perform these tasks and will get a good understanding of what skills are needed to become a successful automotive technician. Campers are required to wear pants and boots. One pair of safety glasses will be provided. Limited to 12 students.  

Engineering for Kids - Currently Full
Week of July 8

Learn about engineering in a fun and hands-on way. In this camp, you will learn how to use Computer-Aided Design software to build a toy. You will also learn how to build an energy conservation machine, program a robot and build a hydraulically-operated pet. These are just a few of the projects that we will be working on in this camp. Limited to 15 students.  

Introduction to Baking and Pastry - Currently Full
Week of July 8

Students will be introduced to a newly-renovated, fully-functional restaurant with a state-of-the-art kitchen. Hands-on activities will include cake making, cake decorating, icing types, cookie/bar making, frozen desserts, yeast breads, quick breads, scones, biscuits and dessert sauces. The focus will be on the interaction of the basic ingredients, recipes/formulas and proper equipment/tool use and kitchen safety. Campers are required to wear pants and no open-toed shoes. Limited to 12 students.

  • The non-refundable fee (unless program is cancelled) of $135 per week is valid for completed applications and health forms received through Friday, April 5, 2013.  

  • After April 5, 2013 the non-refundable    fee (unless program is cancelled) will     be $145.

  • No refunds for natural disasters, local emergencies, loss of power or water, etc.

  • The deadline for all applications is      May 3, 2013.

  • A letter confirming your child’s placement will be mailed to you after May 3, 2013.
